Ah, one of our most common questions. I’m going to try and answer this and a few other questions for you today, so that we all can spread a little knowledge to those who seek it.
This question can be answered in just a few words; The 2018 Farm Bill. When this bill was signed into law in 2018, it federally legalized all products derived from hemp which contain less than 0.3% Delta 9-THC (the illegal form of THC). And with significant advances in the science surrounding hemp, scientists and extractors have learned how to concentrate the Delta 8-THC content in hemp extracts while at the same time minimizing the Delta 9-THC content to under the legal limit. This leaves us with an extract , technically a distillate, that is anywhere from 90%-98% pure Delta 8-THC, while keeping the Delta 9-THC percentage at essentially 0%.
“So neat, Delta 8 is legal because it has less than 0.3% Delta 9-THC, but how does it come from hemp? I thought hemp was just CBD.”
Well, we start with our purebred and exceptionally high quality hemp flower, and extract the CBD oil with our CO2 extraction process, which yields oils in excess of 90% purity. From there our oil undergoes a process called reisomerization, which, for lack of a simpler term, transforms CBD to Delta 8-THC.
There are also more exotic varieties of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) such as THC Delta 0 and THC Delta 10. Chemically, it is only the position of the double bond that distinguishes them from one another.
“So great, Delta 8 comes from CBD, and CBD from hemp, and if it’s got less than 0.3% Delta 9 THC in it, that means it’s legal. But what does it do? What do the effects feel like?”
Well to answer that you’d need to know how you dosed yourself in this hypothetical situation. Most commonly, people would smoke or vape their chosen cannabinoid. At that point your dose is being absorbed thru your lungs and will reach your brain very quickly. The effects will only be moderately sustained however, in other words, will not last very long.
Let’s say, however, that you dosed yourself orally, and you ate one of our world-renowned gummies? The next question that comes up is “Well, what if I get caught with this?”
